CompletedComplete
A new-build family home on a privately owned plot in Lymington, within the sensitive landscape setting of the New Forest, designed to respond carefully to its rural surroundings.
The house uses terracotta clay tiles across both the roof and external elevations, creating a distinctive but contextually appropriate material palette. The design was developed to sit comfortably within its protected landscape setting while delivering a contemporary new home for the owners.
Thistle Architecture was involved from the initial feasibility stage, progressing the project through planning, technical design and construction. The site presented a number of constraints, particularly in relation to existing trees and the surrounding natural environment, requiring close coordination with specialist consultants throughout.
The completed scheme responds to its landscape setting through form, materiality and detailing, while overcoming the constraints of the site.
The Completed House
Terracotta clay tile across roof and walls, with full-height glazing opening the plan to the garden.
